TABLETOP SUNRISE VIEWS FROM SHEKDUR CAMPSITE
Shekdur Campsite is the first stop on the Kashmir Great Lakes trek (also known as Tabletop). It is made up of a large grassland with flat meadows that is surrounded by forest and mountains. From a distance, the Sonmarg valley can be seen. The sunrise is truly spectacular from here. There is also a shepherd’s hut where refreshments such as tea and kahwa can be obtained.
THE CHANGING LANDSCAPES
The trek begins in Sitakari, a small village near Sonmarg. The trail starts by ascending and descending through dense forests and crossing rivers and streams. You will see endless meadows and landscapes in various shades of green and brown as you travel. You will also travel through high-altitude passes like Gadsar.

As the name implies, the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek takes you through more than 12 alpine lakes. Where each lake is more beautiful than the one before it. It’s an intriguing feature that some of these lakes are named after Hindu deities. Because of their immense beauty and turquoise-colored water, these lakes are a visual delight for hikers.
