The Gaumukh Tapovan trek is an exciting trek that offers spectacular views of the Gaumukh Glacier, which is shaped like a cow. It is the main source of water for the holy Ganges. The Gaumukh River is the source of the Bhagirathi river. It is a 18-km walk from Gangotri to reach Gaumukh. This surreal, peaceful area offers stunning views of the Bhagirathi mountains. Meters lies behind Gaumukh, and is made up of beautiful grassland at Mount Shivling’s foot.

You will be able to see the Gangotri Shivling and Thalay Sagar peaks from this trek. Although the trek is generally gentle, it can be dangerously steep at times. How to get there:

It is located 234km from Gangotri along the NH58. It has good connections to all major cities in India. Regular trains to Rishikesh are available. Taxis and buses are available from Rishikesh and Uttarkashi to Gangotri.

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport is located 250km from Gangotri. The airport is easily connected to Delhi, and there are many daily flights to Delhi that connect large areas of the country.

By Road Gangotri is only accessible by bus, private jeep or SUV. It takes about 12 hours to travel from Rishikesh. Taxi stations in Rishikesh and Haridwar have Jeeps or taxis. Dehradun and Rishikesh have tourist taxis.
